What began as a passion project grew into a feature documentary created from nearly 100 original interviews with cast, crew, and fans, that explores the lasting cultural and personal impact of The X-Files.
The documentary was screened in New York City alongside series creator Chris Carter and guest star Joel McHale. The event received press coverage by Variety, Fangoria, Comic Con, IMDB and featured a Q&A panel with the filmmakers and Chris Carter moderated by Joel McHale.
Beyond the documentary, Lauren and Carly actively celebrate the series by participating in fan conventions and special events, where they host panels, screenings, and interactive experiences for audiences. At their panel during DC Awesome Con in March 2026, they announced that they are completing the documentary in collaboration with Chris Carter.
About the filmmakers
Lauren Krattiger and Carly Blake launched The X-Files Fan Retrospective in 2018 and have remained a passionate two-person team ever since, handling every aspect of the project themselves, from financing and filming to production and marketing.
What began as a heartfelt tribute to the series grew into a much larger project. When the COVID-19 pandemic forced a shift in their approach, they adapted, capturing intimate Zoom interviews with cast and crew in personal spaces like living rooms and patios to garages, adding a uniquely personal dimension to the film.
Built entirely through determination, creativity, and a shared love of storytelling, the documentary brings fans closer than ever to the people and stories behind the series they love.
